The General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) hadissued a notice on further standardizing the use of words in publicationsin 2010, which requires that the use of Chinese lettered words andEnglish initialisms in Chinese publications should beprohibited.Therefore, some words in the field of businesssuch as WTO, CEO and GDP will also disappear inevitablyfrom publications.
Based on the background of restriction of Chinese English-origin lettered words, this papermainly focuses on the usage of English-origin lettered words in Chinese business news and tries to analyze the significance of English-origin lettered words in business news.Firstly, it will give the definition and make a comparison of concepts of English-origin lettered words and English initialism. Then the theory of Economics of Language (Language Economics) will be introduced. Finally, with some illustrative examples, this paper concludesthat English-origin lettered words in Chinese business news need not to be eliminated.
