Subtitle translation has been paid greatattention with the increasing popularity of British and American TV series.However, traditional translation theories can’t satisfy the need of subtitletranslation. Skopos theory, established by German scholar Hans J.Vermeer’s, hasprovided a new perspective for subtitle translation. It focus on translation asan activity with an aim or purpose, and on the intended addressee or audienceof the translation. This thesis aims to analyze subtitle translation from theperspective of Skopos theory through the case study of Downton Abbey.
