The use of modal particles is one ofthe important means to express different moods in Chinese. Moonlight overthe Lotus Pond and Transient Days are two representative works ofZhuZiqing, a prestigious Chinese essayist. Based on these two works and theEnglish translation of Zhang Peiji, this paper examines the translationstrategies in Zhang Peiji's traslation of modal particles, and discusses thecauses of translation from three aspects, namely, the differences of Englishand Chinese tone system, English and Chinese language questions correspondinglevel and modal meaning and discourse meaning of modal particles.
