The paperpresentsthe different interpretation of Chinese folktales in the Asian American writers'woks, take Maxine Hong Kingston for example, which areinfluenced by the mainstream of American culture. As a doubly marginalized Chinese American woman, Maxine's works display her dual cultural identity which is epitomized in her The Woman Warrior. In her works, Maxine revised and misinterpreted the Chinese folktales. Based on Edward Twitchell Hall's inter-cultural communication theory, thispaper aims to analyse Maxine's cross-cultural transplanting and misinterpreting by making a contrast between the original Chinese folktales and the folktales in her works. After the exploration, the readers are ableto understand the Asian American Literature deeperfrom a cross-cultural perspective.
