Mulan and Elizabethare two vivid female images in the history of world literature.Yao Mulan, the heroine of Moment In Peking,isa contradictory woman who has western thoughtsof marriage but obeys the traditional systemrules. Elizabeth, the heroinein Pride and Prejudice, insists that marriage should be of equal importance both by love and by economy. They have the strong feminist consciousness but have different ending for many reasons. This paper will analyse the two heroines’ concepts of marriage, and explain the reasons for their different endings. The paper will mainly discuss the two female images, their vision of love, marriage bonds and Chinese and Western socialvalues.
