In recent years a series of press conferences havebeen held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present Chinese provinces withvideos introducing historical, geographical, political, economic and culturalinformation of them, which helps Diplomatic Corps from different countries gaininsights into China’s national state and therefore seek for a more efficientcooperation with Chinese provinces. Nevertheless, in view of the limited timefor the videos, what is involved is the cultural genes of each province, whichdistinguish one from another. Therefore, translation is crucial to thepresentation. A well-organized translation activity can break the linguisticand cultural barriers among various countries, contributing to telling ChineseStories and establishing Chinese Images. This paper aims to explore thetranslation strategies of MPA-produced Chinese provinces promotion short videosfrom the perspective of cultural genes.
