Shanghai is a modern cityprosperous by concession. From the establishment of the British concession in1845 to the recovery of the British and American concession and the Frenchconcession in 1945, Shanghai concession has a history of 100 years. In the pastcentury, Shanghai has formed a unique Shanghai culture. It originated from thecompulsory invasion of western culture into eastern culture. However, thecoexistence of this contradictory tradition and modern culture makes Shanghaibecome the gathering point of various cultures and forms its own culturaldevelopment mode. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence ofconcession culture on the character and life style of Shanghai citizens, and tosee the charm of Shanghai, an ancient and modern city.
Throughthe introduction of the origin and cultural characteristics of the concession,the analysis of the character of Shanghai citizens, and the characteristics ofthe lifestyle of Shanghai citizens under the influence of the concessionculture, including the changes in architectural style, urban planning,clothing, food, housing and other aspects, this paper expounds in detail theimpact of western culture on Shanghai citizens in all aspects.
