Since the beginning of the new century, children's literature has flourished and enjoyed a vast market. Within this field, foreign children's literature works are widely welcomed by Chinese readers for their wild imagination and vivid descriptions. Children's literature constitutes literary works exclusively created for young children. The description of environment in it, especially embodied in The Secret Garden written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, an American female writer, is of far-reaching significance to thesproutingof children's initial thinking on the relationship between man and nature. There is no doubt that this is conducive to setting up children's concept of ecological civilization and contributing to the building of a beautiful China. In this context, how to accurately and properly translate the description of environment in foreign children's literature into Chinese in accordance with the characteristics of children is the key point that cannot be ignored.
Based on the perspectives of Skopos Theory, Functional Equivalence Theory, Interpretive Theory and Reception Aesthetics Theory and take environmental descriptions in The Secret Garden as examples to explore the strategies for E-C translation of environmental descriptions in children's literature. And summarize the relationships among translation theories and translation strategies through consulting materials and translation practice.
