A rose for Emily is a short story by William Faulkner, a famous American writer, which is set in the southern town of Jefferson in Yoknapatawpha County and tells a story about the tragic story of Emily. Dominated by her father, who is the head of their family, Emily was deprived of her freedom to pursue her happiness. And after his death she is left alone and penniless. Then she kills her lover Homer Barron in order to keep him with her forever. This article mainly analyzes Emily's psychological changes after a series of tragic experiences through abnormal psychology, and analyzes the causes of Emily's tragic life from the psychological perspective. This paper is divided into three aspects: self deficiency under the influence of patriarchy and social background, the PTSD caused by her father's death, personality distortion caused by love betrayal.
