Ambiguity is a common phenomenon whichexists in all languages, and English is no exception. Ambiguity increases thedifficulty of realizing the interpretation at the desired level of specificity,and even causes misunderstandings. In this paper, an amount of EFL writings ofcollege English majors in Wuhan University of Technology is analyzed in termsof ambiguity. The author attempts to collect and classify the ambiguousexpressions in these corpuses in order to analyze the reasons causing them. Thus,the strategies of disambiguation can be further discussed in the hope toprovide certain assistance to improve the accurateness in English learning.
