The paper studies meanings of words used in general and in a special field, i.e., automotive industry. It is based on a dictionary on automobile. By selecting words and make the comparative study of their general meanings and technical meanings, the paper aims to clarify the features of technical vocabulary and dig into the significance of learning technical English. It further provides suggestions for the learning and teaching of technical vocabulary.

2. Collect data and materials for thedissertation and write the paper on schedule.
