Alienated communication includes moral judgment, comparison, avoidance of responsibility, and imposition, which has an impact on emotional cotagion among in-group members, especially among family members. In the novel, Everything I Never Told You, written by Celeste Ng, frequent violent communication appears as a routine of daily life. It is closely related to the tragedy of the whole family, the death of their daughter Lydia. And as an epitome of the modern family, the family pattern evokes a concern within readers.By applying perspectives of educational psychology theories, Marshall B. Rosenberg’s nonviolent communication theories, and hermeneutic theories to the interpretion of psychological disorders reflected in Everything I Never Told You, the thesis aims to analyse the influence of communication alienation on family life and try to propose some relevant treatments.
