As to answer those questions,thetranslator must analyze the background of the author’s social environment atthat time.So we can say,the translator’s choice of words depends not only onthe translator’s own language environment but also on the author’s specificsocial and cultural environment.
This article will mainly compare twotranslations of Jane Eyre, which were published in 1980 (Translated byZhu qingying) and 1994 (Translated by Huang yuansheng) respectively andrevealed how different social environment background acts on the translator’schoice of words by comparing the two versions. In this article, the translator’schoice of words is refers to the different translator’s interpretation of aparticular word in the original text. And by comparing the translator’s choiceof words, we can find that Zhu and Huang has interpreted Jane Eyre fromvarious angles.
