In recent years, the demand of socialapplications(App) forabroad hasbecome increasingly prominent. Social Apps such as Tik Tok, have been quite popular with users. In virtue of tools and platforms for users to share their lives, express their views and exchange experiences, these appsare harvestinga large number of fans not only in the domestic marketbut in overseas markets.
The successof such social apps is closely related to their localizationre-namingin cross-cultural communication. Additionally, through the adaptation of cultural context and social context, adaptation theory adopts flexible translation method, greatly promotingthe shapeof local image from the aspect of phonetic form and cultural connotation.
Based on adaptation theory, this paper attempts to analyze the text with the top 20social software names in the list of Global App Store and Google Play downloads. The paper tries to explore the name translation strategy of social Appsin transnational communication by classifying and discussing its adaptation and localization in the new pragmatic situationso as to provide suggestions for the re-name of app in China to enter the international market.
