Midnight’s Childrenis the masterpiece of Salman Rushdie. The narrative in the novel is not linear but spreads outward like the concentric circle with the protagonist as the center. From the view of literaryhistory, Rushdie's tortuous narrative style originates from the two ancient Indian epics, Ramayanaand Mahabharata, whose main contents are not complicated but are depicted into masterpieces with one hundred thousand songs. The bard liked to use this kind of structure, constantly inserting narration and comment. This paper intends to study how Rushdie use this narrative structure in Midnight’s Childrenand why he chooses this style.
